10 Sep Namkhai Norbu, Commendatore of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic
In the year in which ASIA turns 30, we have received a news that makes us proud.
Our President, prof. Namkhai Norbu, today will receive an important honour that, with the proposal of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, was conferred to him by the President of the Republic: Commendatore of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
The Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (OMIR) is the highest among the orders of the Italian Republic. This is conferred to “reward merits acquired towards the Nation in the fields literature, the arts, economics and in the commitment towards public office and activities carried out for social, philanthropic and humanitarian purposes, as well as for long and testified services in civil and military careers “.
Usually no one can be awarded an honour higher than that of a knight the first time. The President and Prof. Namkhai Norbu, on the other hand, was recognized with the exceptional nature of his commitment and contribution to society as a whole and as such was directly given the title of Commendatore.
The award will be conferred today, in the name of the President of the Republic, by Dr. Cinzia Torraco (Prefect of Grosseto).
