The new Yungog dormitory

The Hebei district is a very poor region in the Tongde County, inhabited by the 98% of nomadic Tibetan pastoralists. The district has only two primary schools, one of them is the Tibetan elementary school of Yungog with classes from 1st to 7th grade, for children aged 6 to 12.

Yungog is a reference point for Tibetan families of the district because it is the only school where children can study their own language. Given its high level of education, parents do not have to send their children away to study in the urban centres of the county. Students coming from distant and remote areas can stay in the school dormitory.

In 2012, in collaboration with the Department of Education of Tongde County, ASIA realized a project for the improvement of the living conditions of the students. The Department od Education restored 36 dormitories and provided iron bunk beds.

ASIA furnished 400 sets of mattresses, pillows, blankets, sheets, and hygienical and sanitary kits. The direct beneficiaries of the project have been 400 children, while the indirect beneficiaries have been 400 nomad families, for a total of 2000 people.
